Joss Whedon Says Goodbye To Twitter
Following the $191.3 million opening weekend of his movie “Avenger: The Age of Ultron”, Joss Wheadon has apparently quit Twitter.
There has been a lot of speculation going on since Wheadon's departure from Twitter with people claiming that it is because of some serious threats that he had been receiving. A search of tweets directed towards him in the last week revealed some serious death threats with abusive users urging him to die and commit suicide over certain plot points of the new Avengers movie that they didn't agree with. These comments may be disturbing, but they are all very typical of social media trolls and cannot be considered serious.
The worst bullying, however, came from those viewers that objected the tentative relationship of the Black Window played by Scarlett Johansson with the Hulk's Bruce banner and her being captured briefly by the Ultron. Some fans were also angry because of the way Quicksilver was portrayed in the movie and other plot points.
Even though, Wheadon has always been a popular and prolific figure on the social media platform. He was never a fan of Twitter even before these verbal attacks took place. Wheadon had quit twitter in 2013 as well by saying that he joined only to try and drive business to the movie “Much Ado About Nothing”.
He said that the moment he joined Twitter, he felt that it was a huge responsibility and required a tremendous amount of work and head space. He added that Twitter is without a doubt a fascinating medium but it is like a job and until he has a script that he truly believes in or a tweet that is truly remarkable he will just be walking away.
