#thedress sold for GBP 1,356.78 to a Czech Businessman for Charity
Roman Originals, the company that produced a dress which caused wide-spread debate online, has made a gold and white version of the dress and sold it to a Czech businessman for GBP 1,356.78. The company will match the price, so GBP 2,713.56. will go to Comic Relief. #thedress divided the internet community with some claiming it was black and blue while other said it was gold and white. The dress is actually navy blue and black.
The new version of the dress was auctioned on Ebay and the winner was Tomas Petru who won against 52 other bidders. He said he will give the dress to his wife. She is scheduled to fly to Birmingham where the store is based, in order to be fitted.
The picture of the dress was initially posted to Tumblr by Caitlin McNeill after she saw that her friends could not agree on which color the garment actually is. Celebrities were also involved in debating over the color of the dress, with Kim Kardashian appealing to her Twitter followers to help her settle the debate with her husband Kanye West. Some other celebrities who debated include Justin Bieber, Chrissy Teigen, Taylor Swift and many more. There were more than 1 million tweets mentioning #thedress.
Ian Johnson of Roman Originals, which makes affordable classy clothes, said that the debate sparked a shopping psychosis and that it took only 30 minutes for the item to be sold out.
